Kihei and Wailea – South Maui
Kihei does not honestly have much to offer except for resorts. The majority of the water is not good for swimming; you can enjoy beach activities however. The water is pretty much brown and ugly from South Kihei Road to Cove Park. The resorts in the area will give you plenty to enjoy, but if you desire water activities, then you should venture off up north or farther south. The resorts and condominiums you will find along Kihei beaches where you will more than likely not enjoy the water include: Just because the water is not great for swimming does not mean you cannot enjoy a great stay. The water may be clear when you visit and if not you can always venture off to enjoy the water. Who says you have to stay in one place while visiting Maui. There are many things to see and do besides close to your hotel stay. The two beaches in the area are Kama’ole Beach I and Keawakapu. The winds in Kihei pick up from light breezes to strong winds as the day goes on, so once again on this side of Maui early morning and late afternoon beach activities are best. Wailea is known as the premiere resort area. This is the home to posh and exotic resorts that will make you wish you never had to leave. Unlike Kihei, the water here is clear and the beaches awesome. A visit to Wailea is a visit to some of the most beautiful beaches on Maui. You will enjoy the beachside path that will allow you to take a stroll and enjoy the cuisine at the various restaurants in all the resorts, or just enjoy the beautiful scenery and of course the gorgeous beach. The path stretches from Renaissance and Fairmont Kea Lani resorts and covers Mokapu and Polo beaches. This allows you to walk from resort to resort without the need of jumping in the car. If you travel on Makena Road, you will find quite a few beaches that are not known very well which can give you a more secluded time on the beach. You may find that you are the only person on the beach or your family if you decided to take them along on your drive. Two of best beaches that are not as crowded include Palauea and Makena. Snorkeling and scuba diving are very popular at Five Graves. You will enjoy this water sport and be able to view a variety of sea life that lives in the area. If you want to out kayaking then you will notice that many people launch from Makena Landing. Two golf courses in Wailea keep golfers happy, the Waliea Emerald Golf Course and the Makean North Golf Course. While the family is enjoying the beach, you may wish to sneak off and play a round or two, or invite the family and have a great family day. Both golf courses are well groomed and as beautiful as you might imagine. Even if you are not staying in one of these expensive resorts you are sure to enjoy the beach, the snorkeling, scuba diving, the food, and of course the beauty. You can always choose a cheaper nice hotel in Kihei and then visit Wailea for your water and beach fun. Add this article to your favorite social bookmarks. |
